Serere Wines

A chef, working across Australia and beyond, falls out of love with shift work and in love with wine. He returns to school, studies viticulture and oenology and starts afresh with a new career in wine. It’s not a familiar path, but one that has placed Joe Warren in good stead. Four years working in wineries in North East Victoria and time spent in McLaren Vale, the Granite Belt and the Grampians gave him a solid basis to go out on his own, and Serere was born in '18. He and partner Bec Noonan set up Serere using grapes from the Beechworth and surrounding regions, working with growers who grew the varieties they were passionate about: chardonnay, roussanne, viognier, shiraz and pinot meunier. And the Serere name, Latin for bound, interwoven and entwined? The name aligned with their view of wine, something that is not merely a product for consumption, but a journey and experience of connections. -JENI PORT
