Top wines of 2024

The Halliday Tasting Team reviewed thousands of wines in 2024. Across the year we celebrated these wines through weekly tasting note drops, we released 100 new tasting notes in each issue of Halliday magazine, we announced the best wines of the year at the annual Halliday Wine Companion Awards and revealed the 2022 Oakridge 864 Drive Block Funder & Diamond Vineyard Chardonnay as the 2025 Wine of the Year. In October we unveiled the Top 100 Wines, including the inaugural taster's pick – the Tasting Team's 10 highlight wines.

Throughout the year you've been searching for top drops. Perhaps they're wines for your cellar, wines for a dinner party, mid-week burners, or maybe you're checking peak drinking windows (a reminder to use the Halliday Virtual Cellar to keep track of your wines).

Your highest searched for wine this year was Teusner's 2021 Albert Shiraz from the Barossa Valley. James Halliday scored the shiraz 99 points. "Barossa Valley shiraz doesn't come much better than this," he writes.

Your second most searched for wine was Wynns Coonawarra Estate's 2021 Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon, and in third was – the 2025 Red Wine of the Year and 2025 Shiraz of the YearYarra Yering's 99-point 2022 Dry Red Wine No. 2.

Also making the top 50: the Giant Steps 2023 Bastard Hill Chardonnay, the 2022 Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir from the 2025 Winery of the Year, Giaconda's Estate Vineyard Chardonnay (the 2021 and 2022 vintages), Penfolds' 2018 St Henri Shiraz and the 2019 Grange Bin 95, Standish's 2021 The Schubert Theorum, Mount Mary's 2022 Quintet and Sami-Odi's 2021 Hoffmann Dallwitz Syrah.
