This seems certain to be the last oenological resting place of Philip Shaw, the genius who made the Rosemount Estate empire possible. After its merger to Southcorp in ’01, he saw the writing on the wall and jumped ship, soon after excising 47ha from his ’89-planted Koomooloo vineyard for Philip Shaw Wines. In ’15 he passed ownership of Philip Shaw Wines to his sons, Damian and Daniel, and built a 50t winery for his business HOOSEGG. In a complete turnaround from 30+ years at the helm on one of Australia’s largest wine producers, here Philip’s exceptional wines are small batch and hand made. -JAMES HALLIDAY
