Between the Vines

The estate vineyard (2.1ha of chardonnay) was planted in 1995, and purchased by Stewart and Laura Moodie in 2006. Stewart and Laura do all the spraying/netting/wire lifting, pruning, fruit and shoot thinning; Laura having undertaken a year-long viticulture course. They employ backpackers for labour in the vineyard where needed, and only bring in professional teams for the harvest. In '13, the Moodies grafted 0.2ha of the chardonnay to tempranillo and created the Between the Vines brand, bottling small quantities of pinot noir and tempranillo under their label. Matt Jackman makes the wine in consultation with the Moodies (Simon Greenleaf makes the sparkling wines). -JAMES HALLIDAY
