Julie and Jamie Helyar's False Cape links 3rd-generation Kangaroo Island farming with 3rd-generation Langhorne Creek grape growers. It is the largest vineyard on Kangaroo Island with 25ha of vines (shiraz, sauvignon blanc and cabernet sauvignon, and lesser amounts of chardonnay, riesling, pinot gris, merlot and pinot noir). Wines are made by Julie’s brother, Greg Follett of Lake Breeze in Langhorne Creek. False Cape is entirely off-grid, completely relying on solar power; the red grape varieties are dry-grown, free-range turkeys providing pest control management and sheep are used for weed management during winter. The wines are consistently well made and low priced. -JAMES HALLIDAY

The cellar door was opened in December 2019 and is made from local limestone and recycled and reclaimed timbers which gives it a lovely atmosphere overlooking the vineyards and gums of the Willson River. The cellar door provides wine tastings and light lunches.
