Our Review
This property has had a chequered history, from failed passionfruit farm in the '30s to a vineyard planted by the Seppelt family in the '40s and later acquired by leading Melbourne wine retailer and wine judge, the late Doug Seabrook. The vines were destroyed in a bushfire in ’67 and not replanted until ’98. From there, it passed through several hands and various stages of neglect until the latest owner, Jim Manolios, developed the property as a restaurant, vineyard and winery with pinot noir, chardonnay, pinot gris, shiraz and cabernet sauvignon grown using organic and biodynamic principles. All Trofeo Estate wines are matured in terracotta amphorae imported from Chianti, Italy. -JAMES HALLIDAY
