Champagne Pommery named as the official Champagne Partner of the iconic Sydney Opera House

“Music has an instant impact on your soul,” says Madame Nathalie Vranken. “It’s like an arrow to your heart. A glass of Champagne has the same emotion.”

Madame Vranken – the owner and global CEO of Vranken-Pommery Monopole – is referring to Champagne Pommery’s three-year partnership with the Sydney Opera House, which was announced on the steps of the Australian icon on Thursday, 13 November.

“I’ve been coming to Sydney for 10 years, and every time I come I spend a little moment inside the Opera House,” she says. “It's always a fantastic moment. When we had the opportunity to develop a partnership with this unique, economic and cultural institution known to everyone all over the world, it was something that we couldn't decline.”

As the Opera House’s official Champagne partner, Pommery will be served during opening night celebrations and special performances. The Maison will also be the official event partner of the Utzon Music program – a series of performances held throughout the year in the intimate, waterfront Utzon Room.

But for Madame Vranken, there’s more to the partnership than serving Champagne. She is renowned for her involvement in and support of the arts, founding both the Vranken-Pommery Foundation for Contemporary Art and the annual Expérience Pommery art fair, among other things. Already, she understands the connection between art and Champagne.

“Now, I would like to be able to make a link between music and Champagne, to understand how music can help you understand that all the different grapes, the plot, the blend of Pommery, it’s like an orchestra,” she says.

“I don't have an answer yet. And that will be the work of the next three years, to connect the emotion you feel when drinking a glass of Champagne Pommery with a voice, a sound, a composition, a composer. I want to be able to connect the work of the Opera House with our House of Champagne. This is what I am so happy to explore.”
