Bottles from the private collection of legendary Australian winemaker Max Schubert – best known as the creator of Penfolds Grange – are being auctioned off through Oddbins Wine Auctions.
There are 24 bottles of Penfolds wines listed for auction, with starting bids ranging from $200, to $18,000 for a 1962 Bin 60A Kalimna Coonawarra Cabernet Shiraz. The bottles were originally cellared at Auldana, although have been stored in an air-conditioned, humidity-controlled underground family cellar in recent years.
“We are honoured to present the wines from Max Schubert’s personal cellar,” says Graeme Hyde from Oddbins Wine Auctions. “These bottles represent a remarkable legacy in Australian winemaking history, and we expect unprecedented interest from collectors around the world.”
This is the third time Oddbins, who has a longstanding relationship with the Schubert family, has auctioned off wines from Max Schubert’s personal cellar. A fourth auction is due to take place just before Christmas.
