Best Tasmanian Wines
If you're looking for great Tasmanian wines, you can't go wrong with this list of 50 of the best Tasmanian wines. Tasmania is known for having some of the cleanest air on the planet, with gorgeous national parks and sparkling waterways. It's also the coldest wine region in Australia, resulting in it producing crisp, elegant wines. The majority of these wines are pinot noir and chardonnay (including sparkling wine made from those varieties), but riesling, sauvignon blanc, pinot gris/grigio and syrah are also on the rise.
Although Tasmania itself is a single GI (Geographical Indication), the island state has a number of distinctive wine regions, including the Tamar Valley, Pipers River, Derwent Valley, Coal River Valley, Huon Valley and more. Most of these regions can be reached from Tasmania's two biggest cities, Hobart and Launceston.
For those basing themselves in Hobart, make sure to wander the waterfront, peruse the markets, and check out some of Battery Point's best pubs. For those keen to explore the east coast, Launceston will be your best launching pad – in addition to the fabulous wine and dining, you can also try your hand at wading for oysters or go on one of the many spectacular walking trails Tasmania has to offer.
And if you can't visit, get a taste for Tasmania with the 50 Tasmanian wines below. Including riesling, chardonnay, pinot noir and more, these wines were all rated 95 points and above by the Halliday Tasting Team.
