Sullivans Cove Old & Rare Single Cask American Oak Single Malt Whisky

At 22 years, this is one of the oldest Australian whiskies ever released, hailing from the ancient history (1999) of modern Australian whisky production. After 22 years in the Australian climate, this 200L barrel yielded only a little over 40L (58 bottles), the rest having evaporated away. And while long sold out, this won't be the last of these very old casks from Sullivans Cove. Freshly polished oak on the nose plays with ripe pear and warm Weet-Bix. It’s very oaky, but with plenty of complexity to compensate. On the palate, the texture is huge with a big, sugary entry and boozy Ovaltine flavour that lingers for ages. It’s a little rough, as many of these old Sullivans are, but nothing like this has ever been bottled before or since, and it’s an incredible, and pretty delicious, window into the history of Australian whisky, as well as the rewards of patience.
