The Halliday Wine Companion Awards celebrate the top wines in Australia – as chosen by our esteemed wine critics who spend the year tasting and reviewing wine from across the country. Below, you'll find Australia's best pinot gris/ grigio, along with the ratings awarded by the Tasting Team.
Once upon a time it might have seemed unimaginable that the pinot gris/grigio category would produce so many wines with scores of 95 or above. With each passing year, the quality of pinot gris/grigio submissions grows (as do the many and varied styles produced). This category has firmly cemented its worthiness of a place on the pages of the Halliday Wine Companion.
But before you dive into the exhaustive list of Australia's best pinot gris/ grigio, you can check out the current winner of our Pinot Gris/ Grigio of the Year award – the 2024 Pinot Grigio from Tar & Roses.
2026 Best Pinot Gris & Pinot Grigio of the Year in Australia
Tar & Roses Pinot Grigio 2024, Central Victoria
96 points (PD*) | Price when tasted $24

The style is set – from the warm blush colour and lightly spice-fuelled scent to the textural palate – and it's a winner, especially at this price. It brings almost a gris quality with its smooth creaminess elevated in spiced stewed apple, pear, savoury citrus, white peach and spice. A grigio with a little more attitude than most. – Jeni Port
