We are pleased to announce, at long last, a stand-alone category for pinot gris and pinot grigio. Mayer Bloody Hill PG is a very fine inaugural winner, with Bleasdale and Yabby Lake both going close to claiming the chocolates. Pinot gris/grigio wines make up around 10 per cent of all the white wines tasted for this guide, outnumbering both sauvignon blanc and semillon. It’s a significant variety with, in the best examples, the quality (and texture) to match.
