Contentious Character

New South Wales | Canberra District

Our Review

Contentious Character brings together Jeremy Wilson (chief winemaker), Ben Jarrett (sales and viticulture), Ross Appleton (operations, finance and viticulture) and Tony Mansfield (marketing and sales). I'm not entirely clear who is the contentious character, but so be it. It's based on 10ha of chardonnay, riesling, pinot noir, shiraz, pinot gris, merlot and cabernet sauvignon, all planted in ‘98, almost a decade before Contentious Character purchased the property (then known as Lambert Vineyards). They have tended the grounds, overhauled the kitchen, given the restaurant a facelift and fired up the pizza oven. The name may be a bit esoteric, but the quality of the wines is certainly not going to cause any problems: they are all very well made. -JAMES HALLIDAY
