Call it serendipity, but the day John Sekoranja retired from corporate life in ’16, he and wife Marina met McKellar Ridge’s founders, Brian and Janet Johnston, at a wine dinner. They struck up a friendship and soon enough, the Sekoranjas were doing vintage. As it turned out, the Johnstons were retiring. Enter new owners John and Marina, who are both completing degrees in wine science at Charles Sturt University. Riesling, shiraz, shiraz viognier and bordeaux varieties form the core range. With close to 5ha to manage, including the cellar door on weekends, they're busy. Marina says they are loving every minute of it. -JANE FAULKNER
