Our Review
Terrey and Barbie Johnson (and family) raise beef cattle on a property at the southern end of Orange. Seeking to diversify, the Johnsons planted a vineyard at an elevation of 960m, one of the coolest in the region. The plantings began in '90 with chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon, the latter since grafted or removed because the climate is simply too cool. About 60% of grapes are sold to various other producers making Orange-designated wines. In '13 the brand evolved from Bantry Grove to Slow Wine Co, for which a steadily increasing portion of the grapes is retained. -JAMES HALLIDAY
