Barr-Eden Estate | Love Over Gold

Loved by all who knew him, the late Bob McLean stood large over many parts of the SA wine industry, and in ‘97, he purchased a block of shiraz in the Eden Valley. He was a friend of Joel Matschoss, who looked after the vineyard in the last years of Bob’s life. In ’14, Joel showed the fruit to Pierre-Henri Morel, newly arrived from the northern Rhône, where he had been Michel Chapoutier’s right-hand man. Pierre-Henri was so impressed, he and Joel purchased the fruit, vinified it and their Love Over Gold label was born. Today ownership falls to Pierre-Henri and Michael Twelftree. -JAMES HALLIDAY
