Stoke Wines belongs to wife-and-husband team Rebecca and Nick Dugmore. Nick’s love affair with Kangaroo Island began on a surf trip around Australia in ’08. Kangaroo Island was the first stop, the rest of the itinerary is still awaiting completion. A 4.2ha vineyard near Stokes Bay is farmed regeneratively, wines are made on the mainland at Mount Jagged. The Guroo project is a rolling guest winemaker series that pairs a varietal ‘guru’ with the same fruit for 3 consecutive vintages. The inaugural Guroo was Charlotte Hardy of Charlotte Dalton Wines (from ’19); Stephen George of Ashton Hills and Wendouree was the second winemaker to join the project in ’21, with Sue Bell of Bellwether Wines in the Coonawarra coming onboard in ’22. Steve Crawford of Frederick Stevenson Wines (Barossa/Adelaide Hills) is up next, his first vintage will be ’23.   -JAMES HALLIDAY
