Our Review

Nothing, they say, succeeds like success. Few operations in Australia fit this dictum better than d’Arenberg, which has kept its 100+yo heritage while moving into the 21st century with flair and élan. At last count the d’Arenberg vineyards, at various locations, have 37 varieties planted, as well as more than 50 growers in McLaren Vale. Its considerable portfolio of richly robed red wines, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and grenache are the cornerstones. The ultra-modern and iconic 5-level Cube cellar door offers a range of wine experiences including restaurant, a wine sensory room and a virtual fermenter; art exhibitions are a regular feature, too. A founding member of Australia’s First Families of Wine. Exports to all major markets. -JAMES HALLIDAY

Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Today, fourth generation family member Chester, makes distinctive wines using traditional methods both in the vineyard and the winery. From entry level to iconic, d’Arenberg wines are basket pressed with red wines placed in small batch open fermenters and foot trod. Known for an eclectic portfolio of oddly named wines and a bold red stripe that adorns each bottle, the range is considerable with over 70 wines and 37 grape varieties with styles that include white, red, fortified, sparkling and dessert.
