Wirra Wirra has established a formidable reputation. The wines are of exemplary character, quality and style; The Angelus Cabernet Sauvignon and RWS Shiraz battling each other for supremacy, with The Absconder Grenache one to watch. Long may the battle continue under managing director Andrew Kay and the winemaking team of Paul Smith, Tom Ravech and Kelly Wellington, who forge along the path of excellence first trod by the late (and much loved) Greg Trott, the pioneering founder of modern-day Wirra Wirra. Its acquisition of Ashton Hills in 2015 added a major string to its top-quality bow. Exports to all major markets. -JAMES HALLIDAY
Wirra Wirra Vineyards was originally established in 1894 by known South Australian eccentric and cricketer Robert Strangways Wigley. The winery prospered in its early days, producing many wines including a much acclaimed Shiraz, which was exported to England and the Empire until his death in 1926. The winery ran into disrepair and was eventually abandoned. In 1969 under the watchful eye of the late Greg Trott and his cousin Roger, the winery was rebuilt from the remnants of two walls and some slate fermenting tanks. As with all subsequent Trott endeavours, it was the sheer magnitude and unlikeliness of the project that made it so attractive.
To this day, we do things a little differently. Our guests can launch watermelons from our medieval catapult, ring our three quarter tonne bell, and dress up to blend the next vintage of Church Block. We've added eight new tour experiences, each with a different masterclass. From sessions on shiraz to studying the key styles of wine throughout SA, there's a tour for everyone. All of our masterclasses feature produce from the region, but if you're still hungry visit Harry's Deli for a selection of gourmet food, we even have our own signature coffee blend! So whether you're looking for an experience or just a great glass of wine, there's something for everyone at Wirra Wirra. Visit our website for more information: www.wirrawirra.com
