Our Review

The Collett family is among the best known in McLaren Vale, the late Doug Collett AM was known for his World War II exploits flying Spitfires and Hurricanes with the RAF and RAAF, returning to study oenology at Roseworthy Agricultural College and rapidly promoted to take charge of SA’s largest winery, Berri Co-operative. In 1973 he purchased the Woodstock estate, built a winery and in ’74 he crushed its first vintage. Son Scott Collett, once noted for his fearless exploits in cars and on motorcycles, became winemaker in ’82 and has won numerous accolades; equally importantly, he purchased an adjoining shiraz vineyard planted circa 1900 (now the source of The Stocks Shiraz) and a bush-vine grenache vineyard planted in ’30. Nestled amongst towering gums in a pristine corner of McLaren Vale; Woodstock Wine Estate has been home to the Collett family for three generations. Family-owned and operated, the team at Woodstock are committed to capturing the essence of McLaren Vale and have been since 1973. Our property is home to some of the region's oldest vines, including shiraz plantings which date back to the early 1900s. Head winemaker Scott Collett is joined by his sons Peter and Max, who are continuing the Collett family's legacy of crafting wines that speak of their sense of place, capturing classic varietal expression.

Our tasting room was designed for an interactive and relaxed experience between the Woodstock team and guests. Built for banter and wine tasting whilst wrapped in history, we consider the entirety of Woodstock as a cellar door; with the Stocks Tasting Room as the heart. Open 7 days.

WOODSTOCK Coterie, built in 1988, was designed to nestle among the towering century old gum trees. The design took into consideration the location of each of these amazing native trees. Not one significant tree was cut down to accommodate building the restaurant. Hence, the Coterie’s unique semicircle shape. Rammed earth walls encase the dining area, providing a warm feel and at the same time complementing The Coterie’s unique quintessentially Australian landscape. Glass doors and windows frame the lush native gardens creating an atrium feel for the discerning patron. Upstairs there is a mezzanine level available for private tastings, conferences and functions.

Cuisine

Woodstock’s Executive Chef Chris Bone brings a food philosophy of honest, seasonal and skilful dishes, showcasing the best locally and ethically sourced ingredients and attentive execution.
