Our Review

Peter and Cherryl Fyffe began their vineyard at Yandoit Creek, 10km south of Newstead, in '99. They planted 1.8ha of shiraz and 0.3ha of cabernet sauvignon, later branching out with 0.6ha of nebbiolo and 0.1ha of barbera. Planted on a mixture of rich volcanic and clay loam interspersed with quartz and buckshot gravel, the vineyard has an elevated north-facing aspect, which minimises the risk of frost. -JAMES HALLIDAY

Peter, Cherryl and the Fyffe family planted their vineyard in 1999 at Yandoit Creek, which is located in the picturesque rolling hills between Castlemaine and Daylesford. The majority of the vineyard is planted in shiraz with lesser amounts of cabernet sauvignon, nebbiolo and barbera. The soil is a mixture of rich, volcanic and clay loam, interspersed with quartz and buckshot gravel. This is classic Central Victorian goldfields country. The site is elevated and north-facing with a gentle slope allowing regular breezes which minimize frost and disease. The Glenwillow philosophy is low intervention, respect for the soil and low-yielding vines. Hand-pruning and picking is carried out. The Glenwillow Cellar Door for tastings and sales is located at the Bendigo Pottery Complex at Epsom, Bendigo.
